Going places I’ve definitely been.
Defiance has been a much more enjoyable game ever since the servers leveled out and the game hasn’t been a horrible lagfest. I’ve been waiting a long time to get back in to these streets and finally being in the land of shtako and sci-fi schlock is comforting.
I love this game and I am fully prepared to go through the long arduous process of leveling up my vehicle skills to finally get back to max level. Gold records on all the massacre and time trials? It’s in my future again. Wow this is going to suck when Fawkes eventually shuts the game down again, which hopefully won’t be until well after I’m sick of the game a third time around. I think I can get another 700 hours out of it.

Defiance is a blast from the past, by which I mean four years ago which feels like ten years ago if we’re being honest. There are a lot of little moments that you forget, like taking part in an invasion event and having so many people in a small area that the game stops rendering all of them. The jank-ass cutscenes with characters from the show many of us vaguely remember.
I don’t know quite how long it takes to get an infector naturally but I haven’t hit that point yet. I do know that I have leveled up by assault rifle and grenade launcher skills to about 5, two weapons that were the first for me to max out in the original Defiance followed quickly by the infector whenever I get that thing again.

And of course it wouldn’t be Defiance with the jank. Killing enemies and seeing the server recognize it five seconds later because of lag. Summoning your vehicle and riding in 100 yards only to have it despawn because the server didn’t recognize you getting onto it and it timed out. Getting revived and then immediately downed by some enemy hit with the right combination of buffs.
Right now I’m just going through the motions again. Defiance was never an astounding or groundbreaking game in my opinion, outside of the sheer scope of the world also being a functioning action shooter. I will fully admit that I am blowing through the story and doing the quests for the sake of doing quests.

But what I really want is to just shoot stuff, level up my stuff, and take in the world yet again. And I’m getting exactly what I want out of that. And I will definitely be spending some cashola in this in the coming future because I would like the game to stay online as long as humanly possible, and maybe even have the chance at putting out some new updates.
The only gripe that I have with Defiance is that the expansion content hasn’t been enabled. Why is this annoying? Because the game is dropping expansion guns, meaning there’s a whole loot pile that is disabled for use and can only be dismantled because by the time the expansion release you’ll be well overleveld for those guns. So there’s no point in storing them, not that Defiance has a storage system.
I’m going to go play more Defiance.
