Check it out on Steam. (Early access provided by dev)
I’ve had a few weeks to check out Darkenstein 3D, a humorous Wolfenstein 3D clone built on the Unreal Engine and currently available to everyone free of charge.
You play as hobo guy whose name changes every time he offers it and is generally a play on BJ from Wolfenstein. Adrift in 1940s Germany you find yourself in the middle of WWII simply trying to find your lost dog. And the only thing standing between you and your dog are legions of Nazi soldiers.

I love Darkenstein 3D, and if you’re a fan of Wolfenstein-esque games you’ll enjoy it as well. Each level consists of square rooms and hallways, killing Nazis, finding secrets, collecting gold, and grabbing keys to open doors to move on to the next area. Be smart and you’ll find powerful weapons relatively early.
One complaint I have is that the weapons could use more of a punch. Also levels can occasionally feel bloated and have poor direction. I got lost several times in one level simply trying to find the door I had spent the last twenty minutes finding the key for.

But the soundtrack is fantastic and the hobo guy protagonist is pretty funny with his voice lines and quips. If Darkenstein was charging I would say the game’s best price would be $10 and under. Since the publisher took it free to play, and there are plans to offer paid expansions I really hope the solo dev that made this sees some money for his time and efforts. Until then you can buy the soundtrack.
Check it out.
