CCP Games Spun Off, Rebrands Fenris Creations

Gets investment from Google.

CCP Games is dead, long live Fenris Creations. Today’s news is either good or bad depending on how you consider the surrounding details. CCP Games announced that they have been spun off of now former owner Pearl Abyss in a buyout valued at $120 million USD.

For some reason as a part of the separation, CCP Games has decided to shed the recognized branding and call itself Fenris Creations. Also part of the separation is an investment from Google and a partnership with Google Deepmind, the company’s AI research wing. Google will take a minority stake in Fenris Creations.

The change reflects a shift in ownership and governance only. Fenris Creations will continue to operate as a standalone studio, responsible for its strategy, operations, and creative direction. Fenris Creations’ leadership team, studios, products, and ongoing development plans remain unchanged, with the same people who have guided the EVE universe for many years continuing to lead the company.

Perhaps the best news to come out of this is that Fenris Creations won’t be doing any restructuring or laying off employees, nor are there any planned changes to the company’s structure.

More to come, I’m sure.
