Path of Exile’s Next Update Goes Underwater

Curse of the Allflame.

It’s a day ending with Y and that means it’s time to announce the next Path of Exile expansion. Curse of the Allflame was officially revealed today and is set for a July 24 launch. Players will take ownership of the legendary vessel The Sovereign and plot a course straight to The Abyss.

Travel down to the ocean floor and try your best to survive using Allflame Lanterns, defeat horrifying sea creatures, and race against time to complete the encounter before the lights go out and your fate is sealed.

The mechanics behind expeditions are interesting. You complete expeditions to record a chart, which is then arranged on a board to create a big new expedition with modifiers and buffs and debuffs and all those fun things that ARPG nerds love. Add up to nine charts per big expedition for big rewards and big risks.

Players will also get access to Dead Man’s Sulphur, a crafting system that allows you to create an item and have it spit out several choices of outcomes. Choose your preferred mixture of boosts and watch the others disappear forever. Ancient Ducats  can be found, artefacts that provide crafting effects.

But enough about new features, what about current features? Mercenaries of Trarthus are returning as permanent content, allowing players to challenge warriors to duels for their equipment or a good amount of gold. Defeated mercenaries will fight alongside you temporarily as well.
