CivilContract Has One Positive Review, And It Is Shady

It is clearly developer Varius Benson himself.

Today’s Steam title comes to us from none other than Varius Benson himself, chief Dirty Dev and a guy well known to our audience as being incapable of handling criticism. We talked about CivilContract, an upcoming role playing game back in November when the developer shut off all discussion of the game on Discord owing to negative reception.

Well CivilContract has finally launched on Steam early access and the game is starting off on exactly the kind of foot you’d expect it to. As of this publishing there is one singular user with something positive to say about the game, and that person is very probably likely Varius Benson himself or someone else on the development team. How do we know this? Steam keeps receipts.

The user posting the review used to game under the name CapitalGamingRP Official Server, so even if this isn’t an alt account of Benson himself it is owned by someone at least with an official connection to the developer CapitalGamingRP.

But the story gets better, as users have discovered that Varius Benson is working on another game despite CivilContract apparently launching in a terrible state in early access. An unreleased Kickstarter was uncovered showing a game set for launch in 2020 called Down Under. The gameplay makes the game look suspiciously like a ripoff of first person shooter Squad.

I recommend checking out BigFryTV’s video here and recommend not buying CivilContract which appears to be dying in the crib with a launch day peak of seven players.
