Steam Cleaned: Do Not Buy Task Force

The softest mafia in gaming.

Do not buy Task Force.

That is the lesson of BigFryTV who has taken developer Tracer Interactive to task over misconduct surrounding the testing of their game.

For those unaware, Task Force is an upcoming spiritual successor to the Playstation SOCOM franchise, at least spiritual in the sense that files are being directly ripped from the game and uploaded onto the Steam workshop. In the video, BigFry alleges that while Tracer Interactive maintains that the files are being uploaded by a member of the community and thus out of their control, that he is confident that they were uploaded by the head of Tracer Redline who had boasted of being able to rip files directly from SOCOM in order to create the now-cancelled SOCOM Source.

Task Force is currently not for sale on Steam. To get into testing you apparently need to sign up and give some sort of donation. Tracer Interactive meanwhile is fielding allegations that the developer is unable to accept criticism and lashes out by banning backers and revoking their keys if they say the wrong thing.

For example this video appears to show one tester getting banned live simply for showing BigFry’s Steam Workshop list of Task Force items.

Streamer Abel Green was banned for his criticism with Tracer Interactive going as far as to dig up his donation level to make a claim that he didn’t donate enough to continue testing. The tier to meet was $25, Green had donated $20.

In my own research, I stumbled upon Task Force’s community manager, a rather immature fellow by the username [P$] DiRtY. Dirty isn’t the worst community manager I have seen, but given his propensity for trying to dunk on critics he is definitely among the worst.

In addition to revoking tester keys, criticism of Tracer Interactive appears to lead to speedy blocks on Twitter. For more details on Tracer Interactive’s antics, check out the video below.
