Hi-Rez Community Specialist Among 21 Arrested In Child Sex Sting

The Super Bowl brought may have disappointed the internet with its lack of Spongebob memes, but officers with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have reason to celebrate as they announced more than twenty arrests in an undercover sting ending on Sunday. The investigation, dubbed Operation Interception, identified a number of suspects attempting to solicit a minor for sexual purposes. Among them; Hi-Rez Community Specialist Thomas Cheung.

Any chances of a misidentification have been dashed, as the GBI website identified the figure as “Thomas Cheung, A/M, Alpharetta, GA, 32, gaming studio employee.”

“During the operation, Brookhaven PD utilized license plate reader (LPR) technology to more quickly locate previously identified predators as they entered the city limits. Through a partnership with Georgia Power and Vigilant Solutions technologies, Brookhaven PD has nearly 50 LPR cameras located throughout the city. “Using this technology, our officers were alerted the moment an already identified target entered the city, assisting with their ultimate apprehension,” said Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura.”

VPesports dug a bit deeper and found that Cheung is facing charges ranging from misdemeanor to felony depending on the age of the intended victim.

Leland Yee Sentenced To Five Years For Corruption

Gun control advocate Leland Yee was sentenced today to five years in prison during court proceedings Wednesday in a case that District Judge Charles Breyer referred to the defendant as “hypocritical.” Yee was elected to the position of Senator in California back in 2006 after his run as assemblyman of the state’s 12th district. Prosecutors charged Yee in 2014 after an undercover FBI sting revealed the Senator had not only promised votes and influential positions in return for campaign contributions, but also offered to introduce a client to an arms dealer who could illegally smuggle weapons into the country supplied by a Muslim separatist group in the Philippines, including shoulder-fired missiles.

In the months following his arrest, the California Senate adopted resolutions banning members from accepting contributions from fundraising during critical months, appointed an ethics ombudsman, and instituted new protocols protecting whistle-blowers.

During his time as an assemblyman for California’s 12th district, Yee sponsored the 2005 law AB 1179, banning the sale of violent games to minors and imposing strict fines on retailers for each violation. The law was challenged in district court and shut down by Judge Whyte, ruling that the law violated first amendment protections of free speech. The ruling was challenged in California’s 9th District Court of Appeals, who ruled against the law due to its obscure definition of “violent.” California challenged the 9th District’s ruling, taking the case up to the Supreme Court where in 2011, Supreme Court Justices ruled 7-2 against the state.

League of Legends Team Owner Arrested On Fraud Charges

Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO and League of Legends team owner Martin Shkreli was arrested today on charges of securities fraud and corruption. According to Bloomberg, Shkreli is accused of using money illegally from his company Retrophin in order to pay off debts incurred by a separate company. Shkreli made a name for himself as the poster boy of capitalism run amok when he bought up a drug used for treating immune-related illnesses including, among other things, HIV and subsequently raised the price by more than 5000% from $13.70 a pill to $750. Shkreli later reneged on promises that the company had learned the error of its ways and would bring the price back down.

Shkreli has been accused of running his companies like a ponzi scheme, using the assets to pay off investors from previous failed ventures. Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders rejected a campaign donation from Shkreli, with Donald Trump referring to him as a spoiled brat. If convicted, Shkreli could be banned from running a public company.
