Last Day To Qualify For Final Fantasy XIV Legacy

Would I? Absolutely I would. Square Enix has announced that, upon the launch of version 2.0, players who qualify for the “legacy” system will receive special perks: A discounted subscription ($9.99) and 8 max playable characters per world, as well as an exclusive Chocobo pet and your name in the credits if you wish.

Users with 90 cumulative days of subscription between January 6th and the launch of 2.0 beta testing are eligible. Over at FFXIV Core, an administrator has posted that the last day to register your copy of FFXIV and still be able to qualify is the coming May 31st, meaning 2.0 will probably start beta testing in October (one free month plus three paid).

If you were interested in getting back on board with Square to get your hands on the legacy rewards, you only have a couple of days left to do so. I left a previous article on this matter rather ambiguous, as there was no cutoff date announced at the time.

Mortal Online: Link Facebook, Get Discount(?)…

As someone who works in brick’n’mortar store customer service, I’m often presented with the question; “is it seriously a sale when a $10.99 item is put in sale for $10.50?” and the answer is, in a certain sense, yes. The sale may not be particularly good, but given the new price is smaller than the last, it is indeed a sale.

About a week ago, I wrote on the upcoming expansion to Mortal Online, titled “Dawn,” and that the Star Vault team was also working to implement a feature to connect your Mortal Online account to your Facebook. As an extra incentive, the team decided that players would be given a discount to their subscription price if they linked accounts.

Well, Star Vault has unveiled the Facebook connect feature and the discount is, to say the least, negligible. Starting at five friends on your friends list (well that disqualifies me immediately), the savings amount to .25 Euro, or thirty six cents USD. The sales progress up to 750 friends, where the discount reaches 1.25 Euro, or $1.80.

As for wall spam, Star Vault promises the messages to be minimal:

In return for providing you with a discount, Mortal Online will sometimes make small posts to your Facebook wall when major events occur for you as a player; however, these are quite rare as we know nobody wants what could be considered spam!

Should WoW Go Cheaper?

If Funcom's money was gold-backed...

Here in the first world, most of us have the luxury of looking upon $15 dollars as a small fee, hardly enough to buy dinner for two at a restaurant slightly more fashionable than McDonald’s (Actually, you probably won’t get a combo meal for two for $15 at McD’s either). When it comes to MMOs and subscriptions, however, people seem less keen to offer up their hard earned cash.

Which segues into Blizzard and the most popular MMO on earth, World of Warcraft. I think Blizzard would see a massive influx of profit and subscribers if they were to lower the monthly subscription price to $9.99, out of the enormous amount of new and alternate accounts that would be created. It seems like a slight change in price, however to the consumer’s psyche, ten dollars feels like a lot less than fifteen. To put it into perspective, whenever the store I work at has a sale on Vitamin Water, the price drops to 10 for $10, or $1 a bottle. The price, without sale, is $1.02 per bottle. For the fact that it’s a two cent drop in price, the sale (the image “sale”) always generates a massive response that knocks the product out of stock after just a couple of days. Without fail, every time. After about five sales this past year, no one has apparently caught on.

Lowering the subscription rate on World of Warcraft would effectively knock off the numerous players who are sitting on the fence about starting/restarting their Azeroth adventures, and what better time than right before the release of a new expansion? Try the new and improved World of Warcraft, now at a cheaper rate! It is the most popular, now it’s among the cheapest!
