Fallen Earth: Take A Note, NCsoft.

If Funcom's money was gold-backed...
Fallen Earth will take you to the bank.

What is the difference between Fallen Earth and Aion? Ok, sure, there’s the wings, the combat, the currency, the crafting system, the point of view, the lore, the engine, and pretty much everything else. But what is really different about Fallen Earth? Given up? Fallen Earth doesn’t have the same problem with gold farmers that Aion does.

But how does Fallen Earth do it, you may say? In a recent interview with Massively.com, Project Manager Colin Dwan had these points to make, which he did after this break.

Fallen Earth: Stumbling Launch and Today’s Stroke

The Fallen Earth LLC Boardroom
Where GM's go to have a break...

Impatience is not a virtue in a recently launched MMO. In fact, hindrance is not a strong enough word to explain just how disappointed a player will be if they dive into a recently launched MMO with hopes of 100% stability, a lack of bugs and glitches, and a some residual issues that even the open beta or head start periods could not iron out before launch. Early World of Warcraft players will remember Blizzard being on hand with defibrilators day and night to revive the many servers from their often hourly heart attacks. Warhammer Online saw server queues, and more recently Aion saw total lockouts from certain servers, as well as the load of AFK shop owners bringing some parts  of the server to their knees.

Fallen Earth: Delayed Again

FallenEarth

It seems like Fallen Earth LLC just can’t catch a break when it comes to server stability. What was originally supposed to be a September 9th release was pushed back last month to September 15th. Now, we have news that the title has been delayed again, to September 22nd, to deal with varying launch difficulties.

“Our main focus is to make sure that Fallen Earth is easily accessible to as many fans as possible,” said Jessica Orr, product manager for Fallen Earth. “We are working on initiatives that are near fruition and we simply need more time.”

Luckily for those of you who preordered, this means you will receive an extra six days on to your head start; The newest delay has not affected the head start.

Some Thoughts: After two delays, Fallen Earth LLC can expect an uproar if this launch goes badly (IE: Server crashes, obvious bugs, etc). It’s good to see a company that is willing to push back a product, and potentially lose customers, to ensure that their product will be ready on time, but some will see the developers as possibly pushing development too close to the line, making optimizations and fixing issues that should have been fixed long before the game went gold.

Interested in seeing how Fallen Earth will perform when it launches this September 22nd.
