Perfect World Entertainment: This Is How You Charity

You may have thought that the charity articles were over, and you would be wrong. Following all of our other articles, we’ve got an update from Perfect World Entertainment. For the next two weeks, until April 13th, players of Perfect World International (by Perfect World Entertainment) will be able to purchase the Super Inventory Stone, which upgrades your inventory to 64 slots.

The item is one per character, and lasts forever. 50% of the proceeds are sent to charity. The charity of choice is the American Red Cross.

Kung Foo Is Back: As Legends of Martial Arts

It's back, baby!

Back in February, I talked about a fledgling MMO from Perfect World Entertainment called Kung Foo! This martial arts MMO was running through the final days of the closed beta when Perfect World made a remarkable announcement: They were shutting down the game. But unlike the likes of All Points Bulletin, this premature shuttering was not permanent, but rather an elongated downtime to assess the game and its direction, with PWE pleased with its community response, yet displeased with the game’s content. Perfect World promised that the game would see launch sometime in 2010.

As the months dragged on, I will be honest in saying that I forgot all about Kung Foo! and its quirky style, and imagine my amazement when I get an email from PWE announcing that the game is coming back! Those of us like myself who closed beta tested the original Kung Foo! have been invited to test the closed beta for Legends of Martial Arts. LoMA, as it is called, begins closed beta on the 24th of November.

It’s always good to see a thought-dead title gain new life. More on Legends of Martial Arts as it appears.

Back To The Drawing Board: See You Later This Year

Kung Foo!

Perfect World Entertainment isn’t happy with the current state of Kung Foo! their upcoming MMO that yours truly had the pleasure of closed beta testing. In fact, now that the testing is coming to a close in just a few days, they have an announcement to make: Rather than moving the game into open beta, Perfect World Entertainment will be shutting down Kung Foo! in order to optimize it with more content and improved localization for a relaunch of the closed beta later this year. The closed beta test was quite successful, and the company hopes to use this time to add in new features based off of player feedback.

I often berate Eastern MMOs for being shallow titles, but one thing that remains awfully consistent is the attitude of the developers. For companies like Perfect World Entertainment and Gpotato, they have a vested interest in keeping their customers happy, even if that means delaying their title by months at a time in order to avoid launching before it is ready.

Battle of the Immortals: Why Not? Pets That Help In Combat

That is adorable.

Perfect World’s upcoming MMO Battle of the Immortals breaks one of the unwritten and of questionable logic, yet universally fundamental rules of MMOs: Pets don’t aid in combat. For some reason or another, the idea that any pets that are not part of a summoning spell, should be vanity pets that do not give an advantage, in some effort for fairness. Personally, I have never fallen into the idea that having a pet that aids you in combat would somehow make you overpowered, and it is good to see Perfect World breaking the mold with Battle of the Immortals.

In Battle of the Immortals, as announced this week, players will have the opportunity every now and then to capture their fallen foes as pets. These pets are afforded their own abilities to aid in Player vs Environment and even player vs player combat. To further this stray from the norm, mounts will also receive the same treatment, allowing upgrades to give different abilities.

I am a rabid collector of vanity pets (and I will not sleep until I have every action figure in Champions Online), but I think it is time we threw away this misguided belief that pets with benefits would somehow overthrow the balance of the game, especially when that game already has classes that can summon items, or hunters who have their own pets they can tame.

The Battle of the Immortals closed beta starts in less than a week. Head over to massively and grab yourself a key while they still have some!
