Patch 2.5 is set to be the last to drop before the launch of Final Fantasy XIV’s first expansion, Heavensward, and it will be split into three parts to better distribute the content. Part one of Patch 2.5 drops on January 20th with the next part coming in February and part three in March.

Our friends over at Missing Worlds Media have unveiled a new video showing off map construction using the new Unreal Engine. It is quite impressive how dramatically a scene can be altered by changing the lighting and leaving models untouched. Today’s video comes from a team of developers working on taking Morrowing and remaking it using the Skyrim engine. The mod team of more than 70 is looking to go further than a simple port, adding in voice acting and sprucing up an otherwise dated and barren game world with more scenery. Richard Garriot has released a video detailing Shroud of the Avatar’s progress six months in. The video details housing plots, placing items, crafting, and dungeon exploring. The crafting system is rather interesting, with the player creating the individual parts of the item before combining them at a smithing table for the final product. The player then sneaks into a prison via passages disguised as false walls and aids guards in bringing down an escaped Kobold. You’ll have to watch the video to see everything, which clocks in at under a half an hour.
This video may be an early work in progress, but the visual effects and grand scale of it is mind-blowing. It might be because of the engine, but this video reminds me of that preview we saw of Star Wars 1313 last year.
If there was ever an MMO in line for “Best Comeback,” Final Fantasy XIV would be it. In the latest video, Square Enix shows off the custom built gamepad, as well as showing off a good deal of combat and controls.
TERA is showing off its new opening cinematic, offering some backstory to the game you likely are well aware of by now. TERA launches May 2nd with the open beta starting April 19th.
Why preview Kingdom of Amalur? It’s the first game by 38 Studios, who you may know are working on an MMO to come out at some point in the future. I wanted to get an idea what to expect in terms of quality and aside from some technical issues, I was rather impressed.

Whenever I see flyby videos of Darkfall 2.0, I always feel as though I’m watching a version of Morrowind with improved graphics. Darkfall 2.0 launches at some point in the future.
