If not more.
Final Fantasy XIV producer/director Naoki Yoshida has posted the latest Letter From the Producer confirming that FFXIV patch 5.3 has been delayed “by more than a month at the very least.” The patch was originally slated for release on June 16 but will now likely be launching closer to the end of July assuming there are no further delays.
In addition to the patch delay, Yoshida also revealed that the North American Fan Festival scheduled for November in San Diego has been cancelled due to the novel Coronavirus.
“Although we have been moving forward with various arrangements to adapt to the unfolding pandemic, we ultimately feel that we cannot guarantee the health and safety of the attendees, performers, or company staff members who would be present at the event. Thus it is with great regret that we arrive at this conclusion, and I offer my sincere apologies to all who were looking forward to enjoying the festivities.”
Plans are in motion for a festival in the first half of 2021 with Square Enix examining the possibility of a digital event. Fan Festivals in Japan and Europe scheduled for December and February respectively are apparently still underway with acknowledgement that the ongoing pandemic may shake things up.
