Steam Cleaned: Steam Is Hosting Bootleg Porn Again

I found Braveheart with Chinese subtitles.

Steam is once again playing host to bootleg porn and pirated movies, and I say once again because this isn’t the first time the store has found itself hosting such content. The game I am talking about I will not be linking or naming because while I normally don’t expect naming and shaming games to lead to them getting more sales, this is definitely an exception to the rule. I will toss the name to Valve if they decide to actually follow up on this, or if someone in the press asks for it.

Those of you who read this website will know that Valve’s moderation of their store is absolutely terrible, bordering on criminal negligence. Scratch that, I think we are just about at the line with this one. The “game” masquerades as a minesweeper clone but in reality only serves as a thin veil to distribute porn and pirated movies using Valve’s own content network. Most of the bootleg movies appear to be anime and Chinese dramas but I was able to find a full copy of Braveheart.

Mel Gibson would not be pleased.

The page below was probably the only one on the workshop that I would be able to share without heavy blurring. The developers of this game went the sneaky route and made the Workshop invisible unless you own the game. So unless you pay the couple bucks for a game that isn’t available in English and looks like a crappy Minesweeper ripoff, you would never know what lies in side. And what lies inside is oodles and oodles of porn.

The Minesweeper aspect is just a facade to make it look like a somewhat legitimate game from the outside. The game actually automatically completes once you line up the four to six panel jigsaw puzzles. Each level takes maybe 10-15 seconds to complete. I’m not sure how this didn’t get flagged in Valve’s system since you’d think they would have something in place to maybe bring up titles for manual overview if they might be hosting bootleg films.

And that’s what this is, the workshop files are literally just .mp4 videos. Braveheart is a 4.5gb .mp4 file and nothing else. There is no attempt to disguise the files that are being shared on Steam’s content servers.

Oh and this game isn’t tagged with an adult rating, not that it would matter since it violates about a hundred other Steam content policies. That would mean that Valve’s servers are distributing porn and not age checking if the person buying the game is a minor. The game Photos used to distribute porn and pirated movies on Valve’s servers under the guise of a puzzle game with a hidden workshop. I have reasons to suspect that this developer is the same person/entity just operating under a different name.
