Destiny 2’s next expansion gets delayed.
This week’s Destiny 2 update is a mixture of the good and the bad. The bad news is that Destiny 2’s next expansion Witch Queen won’t be coming out until 2022 at the earliest. The decision came due to Bungie’s ongoing plans to make Destiny 2 the definitive action-MMO and the part Witch Queen plays in those plans.
Good news, however, is that weapon sunsetting is dead. Weapon sunsetting began with the Beyond Light expansion and has shown itself to be quite unpopular with the community. The short version is that every expansion various gear is sunsetted, meaning its power level is capped and it effectively becomes useless under current content. Considering how much grind some items require to obtain, giving them an expiration date did not go well with the community.
Starting next season weapons and armor will no longer be capped.
We’ve made the decision that any weapon or armor that can currently be infused to max Power will continue to be able to reach max Power permanently. Starting in Season 14 we won’t be capping the infusion on any weapons or armor that have not already reached the cap as of the start of Season 13. This means you’ll be able to take your Trustee, your Falling Guillotine, and all the high-stat armor you’ve earned this year to take on the raid in The Witch Queen.
Starting with season 14 each season will raise the power level cap by 10 as opposed to 50. Players felt as though each seasonal restart was a major setback to power gained during the prior season.
Season 15 will address peeking around corners by disabling emotes and not allowing players to pull out third person weapons (swords) that don’t have ammo. There will also be adjustments to Stasis in PvP to bring its effectiveness in line with other subclasses.
