Steam: Nacon Angers Frogwares Fans With Relisting

Sinking City appears on Steam again amidst controversy.

The Sinking City is back on Steam and if you have no idea why that is newsworthy, well you will now. Sinking City is the 2019 action-adventure game developed by Frogwares and published by BigBen Interactive. In 2020 Frogwares delisted Sinking City from all stores except the Nintendo eShop over allegations that BigBen had violated their intellectual property and had not been paying owed shares of sales. An ongoing lawsuit is dealing with that.

Despite the lawsuit, The Sinking City reappeared on Steam this week. The relisting triggered very angry response from the Steam community. As of this publishing Sinking City sits at a steadily dropping 31% mostly negative rating. Negative reviews warn that the version on Steam is not up to date, does not support achievements or cloud saves. There is also the very real possibility that this version may become unsupported if BigBen loses the lawsuit and thus its publishing rights for the game.

Frogwares meanwhile recommended against purchasing this version of the game as they did not create it.

The Sinking City had previous returned to some stores following a French court decision that Frogwares had terminated the contract unlawfully. While Nacon secured some form of victory in court, it is clear Frogwares is winning in the court of public opinion on this matter. Frogwares’ version is buyable from Gamesplanet.
