Jim Sterling Warns Legal Action After DMCA

Shovelware developer Gilson Pontes abusing copyright takedown against criticism.

It’s been five years since shovelware developer Digital Homicide went head-to-head with YouTuber James Stephanie Sterling and spectacularly lost both their lawsuit and their business. And while such a defeat might serve as a warning to more level headed parties that future abuses won’t be tolerated, one Gilson B. Pontes is not such a person.

Gilson B. Pontes operates under LGS Productions and is effectively the Digital Homicide of the PlayStation store. Pontes has released a number of shovelware titles over the years for PlayStation 4 and the games have become infamous as low quality, lazy asset flips. And while Sterling has been covering LGS Productions titles for years now, it appears that Pontes hit a breaking point after a recent gameplay video and decided to strike out. As of this publishing, virtually all of Sterling’s videos covering Pontes have been hit with a copyright claim and removed. The channel has two strikes and if it receives a third may be deleted permanently.

Sterling’s review of Spear of Destiny is still up as of this publishing.

Unenthused at the prospect of putting up with another abusive developer with an inflated ego, Sterling posted a comment on Twitter that they have informed Pontes that if the videos are not released that lawyers will be getting involved.

The LGS Productions Twitter account, which has zero followers, is listed as in protected mode. It will be seen whether Pontes buckles under the pressure or decides to go the legal route which doesn’t seem to be on his side. Historically speaking these fights have not gone well for the developer.
