Sony (Partially) Shutting Down PlayStation Store

Those rumors were true.

Sony is shutting down the PlayStation store, or at least part of it. Rumors have swirled for the last few weeks that Sony would announce the impending shutdown of the PlayStation 3, PSP, and Vita stores. Well the rumors came true today as Sony announced exactly what the rumors stated; that they will remove the ability to buy legacy console titles.

While the ability to purchase games is going away, access to content already owned will remain available as will the ability to redeem game and PS+ vouchers. You won’t however be able to purchase new games or DLC for titles on any of the platforms mentioned.

The PlayStation 3 store shuts down on July 2 along with remaining functionality on PSP, with the Vita closing on August 27.
