New World Details Cash Shop Plans

Non-cosmetics won’t be in the game until 2022 at the earliest.

Amazon’s New World is struggling with its image to say the least. Ignoring the protracted development and numerous delays, New World has been dealing with some publicity problems related to the cash shop and Amazon’s plans to sell non-cosmetic items. Well Amazon released a post detailing what players can expect. On launch players can expect cash shop items including dyes, cosmetics, house decorations, pets, crests, and some other doodads and tchotchkes.

As for non-cosmetic items, Amazon is claiming that they don’t intend on adding any pay to win items to the store. Furthermore the company “consider selling anything other than cosmetic items until 2022 at the earliest.” A claim that is technically false since the company has already given consideration to selling non-cosmetic items. It also means that New World gets a minimum of four months before Amazon considers starting to sell non-cosmetic items.

The in-game store content will not give players an advantage in PvE or PvP gameplay. Our goal is to not provide anything that players find to be “pay to win” for in-game store offers. No items in the store will give players instant lifts to their overall gear score, experience points, or impact territory control. No item in the store is a gate to experiencing game mechanics. Players should never feel they have to spend additional money to experience New World once they’ve purchased the game, as the price you pay at launch lets you play the entire released game.

This is the part where I reminder users the ridiculously poor track record that MMO developers have keeping up with their promises, especially when it comes to what will be sold in the cash shop.
