Neverwinter Dev Blog Talks Module 21

Leveling changes, and vaulted content.

Neverwinter is gearing up for Module 21, a big overhaul of how players will play the game, and PWE posted a dev blog today detailing some of those changes. Module 21’s biggest change is crunching the level cap to 20. But rather than just crushing numbers, Neverwinter is also changing the way you level up. Rather than gaining experience and outleveling content, levels now stay in pace with the content and are granted as quest rewards.

This does not mean that leveling slowed down though. The time to reach level 20 is on average around twelve hours, compared to a much longer and more volatile time to reach the cap on Live. We think players will enjoy being able to unlock new powers faster, make their choice of Paragon Path sooner, and see all that Neverwinter has to offer!

In addition to the level crunch, at least seven zones are being vaulted with Module 21 due to redundancy and reduced usage by current players. Perfect World noted that the removals are not permanent, and the company plans on returning them in an updated form that is actually useful to players in the future.

Where will your character land when the update hits? All existing characters will be set to 20 and given a gear pack upon launch. Legacy campaigns are also being shifted into adventures that will provide rewards relevant to player progression.

Because of the major changes to the leveling flow and level cap, existing characters are going to be set to level 20 and offered a free gear pack to get them in the right place to start on epic content. The leveling Adventures will still be available to play and we encourage everyone to play through the new tutorial missions and claim the Adventure rewards.

Module 21 is available for testing on the Neverwinter preview server.
