Dynamight Studios addresses test woes.
PvP MMOs have a long tendency to lean toward becoming gankboxes, which doesn’t help them in the end as players who don’t want to be constantly killed randomly move on to greener pastures and those who remain can’t fill out a healthy game population. Following the latest alpha test, the folks at Dynamight Studios realized that their anti-gankbox measures in Fractured weren’t quite working.
PvP on the human planet Syndesia is meant to take place mostly between guilds and cities and that didn’t happen. While random player killing is meant to be rare, the systems put into place to discourage said conduct and allow for players to escape weren’t working as intended.
The last test was the first one to feature the proper PvP ruleset of Syndesia, and things clearly haven’t worked out as intended…In the end, player killing was just “too easy” for large groups in the last test. We want to make it way more risky and less rewarding, while incentivizing “healthy” competition between skilled guilds.
In turn, Dynamight announced a few changes for player alignment and item drops, such as evil characters not being allowed to interact with any city service. A neutral alignment is appearing to allow dedicated player killers more leeway in killing each other without dropping into evil character territory.
The big news for Evil characters is that they are no longer allowed to interact with any city service such as banks, marketplaces and crating stations, aside from those in Lawless cities and those of the city they are citizen of. Do note that Evil players can still enter Lawful cities, where there can be no PvP aside from duels (when implemented).
