Pathfinder Online To Sunset

In one of the most convoluted announcements in history.

Pathfinder Online is shutting down, and the folks at Goblinworks probably picked the most convoluted and confusing manner of announcing said shuttering. In a post released to Kickstarter backers and on the official website, Goblinworks announced that servers for Pathfinder Online will close down on November 28 with a big end-of-world event set to begin in October.

In October, Nhur Athemon’s own Chosen will arrive to finish the war between death and undeath, with both the story of Pharasma’s Chosen and the online world they adventure in scheduled to end on November 28. After that, the servers won’t be coming back up, but aspects of the world you’ve all created with us will live on in Golarion, initially through a blog post on Paizo’s site that integrates our history with the larger world of Pathfinder.

Pathfinder Online went into open enrollment in 2015 where the game failed to find its footing due to barely qualifying as a minimally viable product. The same year Goblinworks laid off a good amount of staff and revealed that they were unsuccessful in finding a publisher. Since then Pathfinder Online has languished in obscurity as the game was unable to find the funding to improve the game to attract players to provide the funding to improve the game.

The good news is that any recent purchases will be refunded.

When the world does shut down, we’ll be offering refunds for any recently-purchased items that couldn’t be used in time. We’re also limiting purchases in the Store and ask that everyone buy only what they can easily use during the remaining time available. See The Denouement section of our FAQ for more details and send email to customer.support@pathfinderonline.com if you have any further questions or concerns about your purchases.

So long, Pathfinder. We hardly knew ye.
