And get your hands on his lightsaber thingy.
This week’s seasonal quest for Fortnite is bound to leave some players frustrated. The culmination of week three’s missions leads up to defeating none other than Darth Vader himself. Yeah, the big boss guy who literally everyone and their grandmother is going to pool into a small area of the map to try to beat. The one you’ll have to beat or be locked out of future seasonal missions forever or at least until the end of the season.
Understandably this is going to be a hard task for a lot of players. The good news is that it’s not an impossible hurdle to jump, in fact after thirty seconds of dreading having to take this task on I managed to pull it off in the first session. Big shoutout to the random player in solos who jumped in my battle bus and helped me run over Vader. I wish I knew your name.
Darth Vader drops down in each match, telegraphed by his shuttle landing while the battle bus is still in motion and indicated by a blue light where it lands on any one of several landmarks. These spots also have multiple tents that contain the E-11 blaster, the laser rifle that shows up whenever Star Wars makes its mark on Fortnite. Once again keep in mind you’ll be competing against about a dozen other players.
Unfortunately there are no lava pits to burn Vader in, so you’re going to have to do this the hard way. With guns. Or you could just run away. If you’re only interested in getting the credit for defeating Vader for the mission, you can land somewhere within viewing distance and take a few shots at Vader to register you’ve damaged him. Then run the hell away and try to survive until someone else does the work and actually kills him. As long as you’ve damaged Vader at some point, the mission should complete when he finally goes down.
And Vader is one tough mother, blocking most shots unless he’s actively attacking someone and flanked by two stormtroopers. Oh and let’s not forget the dozen other players who will be nearby. Vader can leap long distances, use force grab, and generally wreck anyone who gets too close. Keep your distance, keep moving, and beware of interlopers.
I suppose one simple way to tackle this is to play in squads. That’s a way to ensure allies on the ground and getting assistance in clearing out any competition before you go for the gold. If you have a group of friends who are decent at Fortnite, even better. Defeating Vader drops his lightsaber, a mythic variety weapon that unlike other lightsabers can be thrown.
Good luck. We’re all counting on you.
