Hotcakes: Tim Sweeney, The Two Faced Liar

Tim Sweeney.

Tim Sweeney is a BS artist and it’s becoming more and more apparent by the day that the age of Epic caring about the integrity of their store is long in the past. Sure it was probably Sweeney opening his arms to welcome NFT scam titles that should have given it away, but outside of that the general public is starting to realize that the man can’t be trusted on his honesty or integrity.

If you’ve somehow been living under a rock for the last five years, Epic Games has been slowly attempting to position their game store as a rival to Steam. Offering better pay cuts…I guess that’s pretty much it. For a store that took years to implement a cart, still doesn’t have a reasonable review system for users, and has been spending money hand over fist on free games in the prayer that people buy something other than Fortnite skins, Epic seems equally eager to throw away any interest someone might have browsing their release schedule.

Because Epic Games is allowing pretty much anyone with $100 to release their complete crap on the store. And that includes straight up asset flips. And that includes developers previously banned from Steam.

Why am I singling out Tim Sweeney? Well Tim Sweeney owns the majority stake of Epic personally. He’s the boss. Head Honcho. El Numero Uno. Mr. Big. The Godfather. Lord of the Rings. The Bourne Identity. In other words Tim has the final word on literally everything.

And Tim has been saying for years now that Epic actively curates their store to weed out low quality games. Like here.

And here:

Tim will chat up about how Epic Games doesn’t allow smut but allow developers to plaster their store pages like this:

And I don’t much care about the big booties on display, in fact I’m more than welcoming of the EGS getting a little junk in the trunk. But when you also have developers who were banned from Steam years ago now attempting (and succeeding) and progressively flooding the EGS with their crap, you get this:

You’ll get banned from Steam for flooding the store to the point where customers and other developers get pissed at Valve, but at Epic they’ll welcome you with open arms. As long as your $100 check clears, you can release whatever the hell you want.

There’s already very few people who ever utter the phrase “I can’t wait to see this week’s releases on the Epic Games Store,” and Epic seems content to let those few people down in return for a couple hundred bucks here and there from shovelware peddlers.

The clock is ticking down to the first pirated game Epic inadvertently lets through the gates, it’s an inevitability now.

The big difference between Steam and Epic is that while Valve has admitted they’ll let just about anything on board, Epic still claims to actively curate their releases. And that makes Tim Sweeney a two-faced liar.

Otherwise I have no opinion on the matter.
