Smurfs.
Valve is among a few developers who have taken a pretty hardline stance against smurfs over the years. Not the lovable blue creatures of Smurf Village, but the people who create alt accounts in order to troll lower level ranked play in games without being punished.
Well; Valve has issued a warning to smurfs in Dota 2. Not only have they banned 90,000 active smurf accounts from the last few months and identified their mains, but going forward all accounts involved in smurfing can receive a penalty to their main account including behavior score adjustments and a potential permanent ban.
Additionally, we have traced every single one of these smurf accounts back to its main account. Going forward, a main account found associated with a smurf account could result in a wide range of punishments, from temporary adjustments to behavior scores to permanent account bans.
Will this deter smurfs? I consider myself relatively positive, I’m going to go on a limb and say no.
