Blizzard Cracking Down On WoW Token Abuse

Restricting purchases to certain accounts.

Been riding that WoW Token train for six years now? Well your time is about to come to an end. Today’s news is an odd one. Blizzard announced via the official forums that accounts that haven’t purchased subscription time with real money since 2017 will no longer be able to use WoW Tokens to extend their subscription time.

At least not until they buy more subscription time with real dollarydoos.

The update goes into effect on November 21, 2023 and affects all accounts, but specifically those that have existed since 2017 and haven’t used real money on subscriptions in all that time.

Players will no longer be allowed to purchase a WoW Token from the Auction House or the in-game Shop for gold if they have not spent real money to purchase and consume at least 30 days of game time (a “Time Limited License”) since 2017.

The change seems to be focused at bot farms and undercutting their ability to mass fuel burner accounts by forcing them to pay a minimum of $15 to get the account going. As far as legit players, it’s hard to imagine just how miniscule the number of people truly being affected by this is.

I’m sure we’ll hear from one or two of them.
