City of Heroes: Homecoming Is Officially Official

Officially.

We are four days into January and I think we already have a strong contender for the “didn’t see that coming” award for 2024. City of Heroes: Homecoming, the unofficial private server for City of Heroes, is now the official unofficial server of City of Heroes.

In a post on the official forums, the folks at Homecoming revealed that they have come to an agreement with NCSoft to license City of Heroes. This means the server is safe from a random DMCA, new content will be coming out, the game will continue to be free and supported by donations, and more importantly it won’t be DMCA’d at the random whim of NCSoft.

There are no license fees to pay NCSoft, so the game should run just fine for the foreseeable future. Most notably the license does not extend to other server owners. Sorry!
