After massive fan outrage.
What does it take to convince Respawn Entertainment to reverse an objectively terrible decision? 80,000 people voicing their displeasure on Steam. Back in July 8 we covered how Apex Legends was planning some big changes to battle passes.
Specifically their design was to halve the length of the battle pass, halve the amount of content people received, effectively double the price for the same time period prior, and not allow players to buy battle passes with the apex coin earned from prior battle passes. And Apex Legends players were understandably angry. How angry? Enough that over 70,000 of them left negative reviews on Steam.
In a post on Twitter, the folks at Respawn announced that they are reversing course. Eventually. The Season 22 launch will allow people to get the premium pass by completing a few simple in-game challenges. With the split pass starting in September, it will be possible to buy the pass with 950 apex coins as before.
Additionally the company pledged to focus on player priorities; cheaters, game stability, and QOL updates. How much you believe this promise is up to you.
MMO Fallout will follow up the next time Respawn Entertainment announces a business decision that worsens the player experience and treats customers in complete contempt. By my watch, it’ll be around October.
