NCSoft Q3 Finances Show A Company On Fire

By which I mean it’s burning to the ground.

NCSoft having a bad financial time has been in the cards for a while now. Maybe the layoffs were an obvious indicator, maybe when they refused to share Throne & Liberty finances whether they be good or bad and we all know they wouldn’t refuse to share it if the data was good.

Income and profits were down in the negative territory this quarter with a 14 billion KRW operating loss and a 26 billion KRW negative income. If you had a job this quarter or even found a penny on the sidewalk, you had a bigger net positive gain than NCSoft.

NCSoft is still absolutely refusing to share Throne & Liberty sales information and we can only assume that it’s because after more than a decade in development, the results are embarrassing. NCSoft notes mobile’s 16% QoQ increase to deflect from the more important 8% drop in YoY performance. The PC division meanwhile saw a roughly 13% drop in the same period.

But there’s stuff coming on the horizon, like Aion 2. On the other hand, there’s about six other projects and teams that are kaput. I’m guessing none of the executives are expected to take part in the company-wide voluntary resignation program, the people whose leadership got the business into the mess it’s currently in.
