Jagex ups its humiliation kink.
At some point you have to wonder if Jagex has a humiliation kink. I say this because this isn’t the first time the RuneScape developer has put out a survey, one asking the type of questions that should have raised a red flag and prompted some immediate feedback. Feedback like “people are going to be angry at the mere notion that this could happen in the future.”
Questions like; What if Jagex raised the price of the game’s subscription and then only gave access to RuneScape 3 or Old School RuneScape? Or what if you could get multiple characters but pay in the realm of $30 per month? What if we added in-game advertising? What if customer support became paid on its own? What if the free version got less content and less support?
All of this of course went well with the community, who are nothing if not appreciative of RuneScape’s endless sales to various Chinese investment holding firms and the fact that Jagex has been finding new ways to milk the game for every dime they can get for over a decade now.
In an update on the official website, Jagex stated that the survey questions are just that, survey questions, and don’t indicate any concrete plans for future changes. The questions were sent out as a way to gauge the temperature and the thermometer is currently reading “very pissed off.”
Jagex has committed that unpopular ideas will be filtered out, a promise that they’ve had a hard time making good on in the past, but there’s a first time for everything.
