Marvel Rivals Celebrates Massive Success With Layoffs

What is even the point of working for AAA companies?

Marvel Rivals is the latest example of investors being a cancerous tumor on the games industry this week. Despite boasting tens of millions of players, with over 300,000 concurrent people playing just on Steam and more on consoles, as well as monthly sales figures over $100 million, Marvel Rivals is laying people off.

As posted by The Verge, NetEase is laying off an unspecified number of employees at its US studio including a game director and level designer. The exact number is presently unknown, however any amount is disproportionate to the reality that the game has become a massive money maker for the studio.

Which just goes back to the new adage in gaming; if you ship a game and it fails, you get laid off. If you ship a game and it’s a massive success, you get laid off.

Some gamers are responding by leaving negative reviews on Steam.
