They’re called emptyvessel, with lower case letters.
Sometimes you can see the headlines write themselves. NCSoft this week announced a strategic investment in emptyvessel, and yes I’m spelling that name correctly. Right now multiple news site headline writers are working on fitting this into their coverage of emptyvessel’s future releases.
Hope your games aren’t devoid of content on launch.
Anyway, outside of having no capital letters in its name, emptyvessel is made up of developers from Activision, Disney, id Software, Microsoft, and Naughty Dog. They are developing an Unreal Engine 5 title called Defect.
What is Defect? I’m glad you asked. It’s a squad-based tactical shooter. We learned about it in 2024.
“We started working on Defect with a simple belief, that great games come from focused, passionate teams who are empowered to take creative risks,” said emptyvessel Game Director Emanuel Palalic. “That’s why we’re excited to partner with NCSOFT. From the start, they’ve understood our goal, not just to build a game, but to build a better environment for the developers behind it. NCSOFT’s support and expertise will help us take Defect and Empty Vessel to the next level.”
NCSoft has also invested in Sweden-based Moon Rover Games, Polish dev Virtual Alchemy, and Korean dev Mistil Games. And Vic Game Studio.
