NCSoft Reveals Its Plans For Aion 2 Monetization

Probably the least surprising news you’ll read this week.

With Aion 2 on the horizon, NCSoft has seen fit to release a nice big infographic on how it plans to keep the game running. Money-wise, that is. The core shouldn’t really surprise anyone, with Aion 2 running on a free to play model with optional subscription and a cash shop.

Currencies are split between the confusingly named Kina and Quna, with Kina being market currency and Quna being the premium currency. Kina is acquired through gameplay and by selling items on the player market, while Quna is the one you swipe your credit card for. Use of the market (and therefore Kina) requires the game’s subscription.

The cash shop is split between cosmetics and consumables, with NCSoft promising (a dollar every time I’ve heard that) that consumables will not affect gear power or long term power and that they will all be available to acquire in-game in some way. NCSoft is side-stepping pay to win by claiming you can’t obtain power from consumables while allowing players to acquire market currency with real currency.

And of course it’s 2026 so the game will have a battle pass with paid premium tracks, and it’s a Korean MMO so the battle pass will be per-character so you can’t share your cosmetic unlocks with your alts.

Check it out. Aion 2 allegedly launches globally in September.
