Strait of Freedom.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about XLGames over the last six years it’s that they will literally do anything but get ArcheAge 2 (now ArcheAge Chronicles) to a completed state. At this rate we will not only have an ArcheAge physical collectible card game and a cozy farming title set in the series, but we’ll also see the launch and finish of the Broadway musical adaptation before ArcheAge 2 hits open beta.
Enter Strait of Freedom, the latest ArcheAge title to be announced. Strait of Freedom is a remake of ArcheAge…I think. It claims to “build on what fans know and love about ArcheAge, while modernising the classic series for today’s MMORPG player.”
“We believe ArcheAge S will deliver a fresh experience, while faithfully carrying forward the core appeal that has made the ArcheAge IP beloved by players around the world for many years,” said Siwoo Lee, Co-CEO of Kakao Games. “We will work closely with XL Games to ensure the franchise’s strengths resonate with players worldwide and prepare for a successful global launch.”
So the game will have rampant hacking, a frustrating land rush, and an incredibly toxic player base? Gotcha. Honestly I’m looking forward to the shared world experience of ArcheAge Chronicles even though I can safely say it’ll be ready for deployment sometime around 2050-never.
Strait of Freedom is set for launch sometime in 2027, which should give an idea of how far ArcheAge 2 is from actually seeing the light of day.
