Steam: Less Than A Month From Launch, Broomstick League Is Dead

Game getting pulled from Steam and issuing refunds.

One might look at a game like Broomstick League and think “JK Rowling’s going to sue somebody,” and while I don’t have an answer to your observation, I can tell you that Broomstick League is on its way out. After launching into Early Access on March 5, the team behind the Harry Potter-inspired broomstick game have announced that it will be removed from Steam with the servers turned off.

Why? They can’t say. As of this publishing at around 11p.m. on April 4, the game is still listed on Steam with no official announcement on the platform. The following announcement was posted to the official Discord:

A message to our community, We wanted to let @everyone know that on Friday, April 3, 2020, we’ll be removing Broomstick League from Steam and turning off our servers. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to go into much more detail about our reasons why, but know that we are incredibly grateful for the help and support we saw from all of you. This decision was not made lightly and we sincerely thank our community for the extraordinary support we received throughout Broomstick League’s development. We are currently working with our friends at Steam to issue full refunds to all existing customers. We have a lot of big news to share over the course of the year, stay tuned! Thank you once again for the support, we sincerely hope you, your family, friends, pets and everyone you know are staying safe at home.

Who is the culprit? Was it Warner Bros. lawyers coming around? The crushing defeat of bankruptcy given Broomstick League peaked at 487 players on February 23 and immediately crashed? The world may never know.

As always, big thanks to SirViolentDeath for the tip.
