MMOrning Shots: That’s Wakfu

wakfu_dragon-pig_2_web

One day someone will say “Omali, I saw this game on MMOrning Shots and now I am a happy customer,” and maybe, just maybe, those fine fellows who develop games at [redacted] will stop beating me up and stealing my lunch every day. Maybe, I can always dream.

MMOrning Shots is a daily line of screenshots from various MMOs. Most are taken in-house or come to us in press releases, but if you would like your screenshot featured, send it over to contact[at]mmofallout[dot]com with the subject “MMorning Shots.”

MMOrning Shots: The Phoenix Project

City_Block_Nate

We’re not just building a game; we’re building a world, which we hope will be able to stand on its own merits in an environment fraught with intense competition. It will only be able to do so with the support of its surrounding community.

I love reading up on the two City of Heroes spiritual community sequels, The Phoenix Project (pictured above) and Heroes and Villains. The above is The Phoenix Project being tested on the Unreal Engine with stock assets. You can check out the current status of The Phoenix Project by heading over to the Missing Worlds Media website.

MMOrning Shots: Heroes And Villains

Heroes and Villains has been on MMO Fallout’s radar for quite a while now, a community focused game birthed by ex-City of Heroes players. If you want to see more about the game, check it out here.

MMOrning Shots: Premium Milk

How much tainted milk is premium worth? I guess that depends on what kind of premium milk we’re talking about here. Either way, I’m not sure how we missed it but last month Gamersfirst implemented an update turning premium subscription into a traded item, ala PLEX from Eve Online and in other MMOs.

MMOfternoon Shots: Remote Loot

ScreenShot00000

Why can’t other games have remote looting? If you haven’t played Lord of the Rings Online in a while, the Riders of Rohan expansion brought with it a remote loot system. What this means is that you no longer click on mobs to loot them, rather the loot is added to a pending window with a one hour timer to retrieve or delete the items. What this means is that you never have to worry about running out of space and leaving loot behind, since you always have time to go to a vendor and get your bags in check, then loot whatever was in your pending list.

Can I have this in other games?

Today’s MMOrning Shot comes from a viewer named Omali and is a screenshot of a previous City of Steam beta weekend. Each dungeon in City of Steam offers an array of challenges, from killing specific monsters to collecting items all within a time limit. The challenges aren’t all that great for picking up loot, since you are constantly racing against the clock, but the points gained toward your challenge score make up for the loss of free stuff.

In hindsight, The Agency probably would have done better than Sony Online Entertainment expected had they allowed development to continue and perhaps even complete. For those who don’t remember this title, The Agency was Sony’s take on an unlicensed James Bond MMO. Players would take on instanced missions that would allow them to go in guns blazing or to choose the more stealthy route and drop some poison in their target’s drink.

Unfortunately The Agency was simply a casualty of downsizing, although hopefully Sony will keep the property in mind for when Everquest Next makes them a boatload of dosh.

MMOrning Shots: ROBLOX Tornado

RobloxPlayer 2013-04-13 00-11-31-83

I’m not sure why I find ROBLOX’s many “survive the disaster” servers so endearing, but I do. Today’s creation comes to us from stickmasterluke and has, if nothing else, reintroduced my old fear of lightning. Or maybe it’s just because, as a child, I was trapped in a building for a short thirty seconds while lightning tore it apart from the outside. Yea, that must be it.
