Neverwinter Dumps Windows XP And Old Video Cards

Neverwinter joins the growing list of games dropping support for older versions of Windows, as with today’s update the client will no longer support Windows XP and video cards that don’t meet a certain Direct3D benchmark. The update was announced back in December as an effort to improve game performance and optimize the player experience.

As of this build, Neverwinter can no longer support the Windows XP operating system, or video cards with a Direct3D Hardware Feature Level less than 10.0.

Neverwinter Launches the Cloaked Ascendancy On PC

The world is slowing down, or at least that’s what the song in Neverwinter’s latest expansion told me. The Cloaked Ascendancy sees the city of Neverwinter once again under attack from external threats. It is up to you, the adventurer, to delve into the River District to fight back the Cloaked Ascendancy and once again keep the world safe from harm.

The campaign content this time around involves reclaiming the River District from the Cloaked Ascendancy and returning it to its former glory, before returning to the Spellplague Caverns Dungeon to bring the fight to the enemy. Along with the new adventure zone and dungeons, players will also be able to get their hands on artifact weaponry.

The Cloaked Ascendancy is available today on PC with console launch coming later this year.

Double Experience Weekend Coming To Neverwinter

RuneScape isn’t the only game feeling generous with the experience this weekend. Adventurers in Neverwinter will once again have the opportunity to level up those companions at half the effort, as Perfect World Entertainment is running another double experience weekend. Starting Thursday at 7:30am PST and running through Monday February 20th at 7:30am PST, both player characters and their companions will receive 100% bonus experience.

This bonus applies to kills, professions, quests, and invocation. Your companions will level up at double the rate as well, making this weekend handy for bringing those stragglers up to speed.

Neverwinter Announces The Cloaked Ascendancy

Perfect World Entertainment has announced the next big update for Neverwinter, dubbed The Cloaked Ascendancy. Taking place after the events of Storm King’s Thunder, adventurers return to the city of Neverwinter only to find a new threat in the form of the Cloaked Ascendancy. In order to crush this new threat, players will head into The River District, a new adventure zone, to complete a new campaign with new skirmishes, levels, items, and the return of the Spellplague Caverns.

The Cloaked Ascendancy launches on PC on February 21st, with consoles to follow at a later date.

Neverwinter’s River District Offers Daily Advancement

Perfect World Entertainment has released a new developer blog discussing the River District, and a new threat from a group of wizards hell bent on taking over Neverwinter (who isn’t these days?). The goal of the River District is simple: Stop the wizards from taking control and reclaim the district for Lord Neverember. The campaign revolves around clearing enemies, assisting with efforts to rebuild guard posts and maintain security, and defending against counter-attacks from the wizards and their minions.

The goal, however, is to provide a campaign that has more content than the simple rotation of daily quests that players are used to.

The dynamic nature of the zone means more choice when it comes to completing dailies for the campaign. Rather than having several rotating quests that must be completed each day, the bulk of your daily credit simply comes from playing in the zone. You can play the territory control game with the guard posts, activate and explore treasure vaults at the dig sites, participate in heroic encounters to stop wizard rituals and counterattacks, or just defeat enemies throughout the district. Any and all of these things grant credit toward daily campaign progress.

For more information, check out the developer blog at the link below.

Neverwinter New Changes to Dungeons, 15% VIP Sale

Today’s Neverwinter patch doesn’t just introduce the Gift of Tymora event, it also marks the start of a 15% VIP sale. VIP in Neverwinter acts like a subscription for other MMOs, with bonuses that continue adding with each month that you subscribe adding to a rank that never decreases even if your subscription does.

In other news, today’s update is accompanied by details to changes to in-game content. Foremost, the rewards system is being reworked to give rarer rewards more often, including artifacts, companions, mounts, and more. The game will announce to your group when you obtain some rare piece of loot, with Perfect World also mentioning that the announcement is not global (not to add to the game’s already spammy announcements), and finally the last item on the list is a useful items inventory tab, for things that you need but don’t use all that often like fishing poles, keys, etc. The useful items tab will help clean up your inventory.

Tymora’s Gift, meanwhile, introduces a new fancy horse that you can buy with currency obtained during the event (picture below).

Both events run January 12 through January 16 on PC and console.
