UAE Siege Tournament Cancelled

After backlash over human rights abuses.

Ubisoft today announced that a planned Rainbow Six Siege tournament has been cancelled and will be moved to a new region following community backlash. The tournament was to take place in the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi. Ubisoft is of course a company that almost iconically reminds us before every game about the diversity of its staff, and the decision to host a tournament in a country infamous for its human rights abuses against women, LGBT, and other such groups didn’t sit well with the community.

In a statement posted on Twitter Ubisoft defended the decision to host the tournament in the UAE, but announced that the tournament will be held at another location. Where? That hasn’t been decided on yet.
