Jagex Posts Fifth Successive Year Of Growth

RuneScape is making a lot of money, thank you.

If you ask certain members of the RuneScape community the game has been dying since roughly 2004. Ask the bean counters at Jagex and they’ll probably tell you a different story. Jagex has revealed this week its fifth successive year of growth with a 19.4% annual revenue increase as RuneScape enters its twentieth year of operation.

Jagex CEO Phil Mansell said:

“Jagex continues its journey of growth and investment and 2019 was an extraordinary year as we welcomed more players to our living games of RuneScape and Old School RuneScape than ever before, taking the company over the £100m+ revenue mark for the first time in our history. Attracting more players and, importantly, keeping our loyal gaming communities excited and engaged for the long-term speaks to the success of our living games ethos. This is the bedrock of our strategy and it is built on putting players first. In turn, this has attracted world-class talent to further bolster the amazing Jagex team and fuel further success.”

2019 milestones include an all-time membership high with RuneScape and Old School, OSRS reaching a highest ever daily active players, a BAFTA award for mobile game of the year, the launch of RuneScape Mobile into early access, and an investment in talent with 40 new employees added bringing the total to 377. The company has raised £261,000 for various charities.

RuneScape hits its twentieth anniversary on January 2021.
