Metacritic Is Delaying User Reviews

For 24 hours it seems.

New game comes out and you’re just itching to get online and blast it (or praise it) on Metacritic? You’ll need to wait. Twitter is abuzz with discussion on Metacritic’s page for Crosscode which released today (July 9) and is not allowing user reviews for the next 24 hours.

The message on the page says “Please spend some time playing the game. Come back to review it starting at 12:00 PST on July 10.” Speculation of course is rampant with some wondering whether the change in policy is in response to the massive review bombing (both positive and negative) of The Last of Us 2.

Regardless of the catalyst for the change, it does appear to be a direct response to people showing up to alter the review scores for games they love or hate, that they clearly have not played.

How do you feel about the Metacritic changes? Is 24 hours too much? Too little? Let us know in the comments below.
