Survival MMO struggling to hit double digits.
It’s going to be a little while further before the gaming press can go full steam ahead with those
“Population Zero Fulfills Its Own Prophecy” articles we know you pre-wrote six months ago, but for now it’s time for a patented Early Access Checkup. You might be asking yourself why I’m looking at this game two months after launch as opposed to the general annual checkup, and my reasoning as I’ve talked about in previous articles is out of a lack of confidence that Population Zero will last through December let alone to next March.
Population Zero is crashing. Scratch that, Population Zero crashed and we are still watching the flaming wreckage. Bear in mind this game peaked at 2,170 players in May and is currently barely able to break 10 concurrent players at any given time. If you look at the Steam charts page for the last week you can see that the game has indeed dipped down into the population zero zone from time to time.
Perhaps the most damning news of all is that the updates have come to a screeching halt. Population Zero had been receiving pretty regular updates until June 11 and since then the updates have grinded to a halt. The Twitter account is still active and it’s likely Enplex is focusing more on bigger updates instead of more regular small tweaks.
While it would be great to see Population Zero pull a No Man’s Sky and turn around its unfortunate missteps in the Early Access launch, those kind of comeback stories are few and far between. You only get one chance at a first impression, even if your game is in early access.
