Steam: Ubisoft Still Selling Broken Game

Might & Magic 10 sells DLC that breaks the entire game.

Might & Magic X: Legacy is the latest entry in the Might & Magic series. Released in 2014, Ubisoft recently shut down online support for the title along with several other games. Ignoring the logic of requiring online servers for a wholly single player title, the shutdown had the effect of breaking most of the game for players who own a piece of DLC. One that Ubisoft is still selling.

Legacy has one piece of DLC available on Steam, that being The Falcon & The Unicorn. If you own this DLC and try to play the game now that the servers are offline, you’ll be unable to progress past Act 1 of the story as for some reason story triggers were tied to DRM servers. For a single player game. Furthermore those who purchase the digital deluxe edition are finding some of the content in that package unavailable.

Players have already devised ways to unbreak the game and reenable the missing items, but the elephant in the room needs to be addressed. While servers eventually shutting down is old hat, Ubisoft is still selling the deluxe edition and DLC on Steam. They are deliberately selling a broken version of the game, as well as a $7 additional purchase that will break the game. I’m going to go on a limb here and say this is probably illegal in Australia and some European countries.

Ubisoft is aware of the issue and looking into it. What this means is anyone’s guess, but the Steam community is utilizing the review system to prevent any unsuspecting newcomers from buying it.
