Steam: The Sinking City’s Silent Relisting

Nacon and Frogwares remain silent as game appears.

The Sinking City is the epicenter of a legal battle between developer Frogwares and publisher Nacon. To boil the story down, Frogwares sued Nacon alleging that the latter violated its intellectual property rights, missed payments, and attempted to steal the Sinking City IP for its own profit. Since the lawsuit started, The Sinking City disappeared, reappeared, and disappeared again on Steam. The latest takedown in March had Frogwares issue a DMCA takedown over what it called a pirated version of the game uploaded by Nacon.

The title remained off the store until June 25 when it reappeared silently. MMO Fallout has attempted to reach out to both Frogwares and Nacon for comment, but neither has responded in last week and a half. Even more surprising is that we have not seen a comment from either company regarding the relisting. Both Frogware and Nacon have been anything but quiet, with Frogwares going as far as creating an entire document explaining how the current Nacon version of The Sinking City is pirated.

While it is on sale for $15.99, gamers should exercise caution when buying the current listing of The Sinking City. The version on Steam does not include DLC, and it is very likely that it won’t be supported as developer Frogwares has disavowed the version as unauthorized.

We will update if either company issues a statement or responds to our request for comment.
