Naraka: Bladepoint Gets Initial Mixed Reviews

Following its August 11 launch.

Remember a few days ago when I said that Naraka: Bladepoint would be the game to watch for this week? Well watch it you all did. Following its launch on Wednesday, August 11 the response to Naraka: Bladepoint has been mixed. As of this publishing the game holds a 69% “mixed” rating on Steam with more than three thousand reviews contributing to that score.

Naraka: Bladepoint is a 60 player battle royale that focuses on parkour and a grappling hook, allowing players to move freely while beating the crap out of each other. Critics so far have pointed to issues surrounding the lack of Oceanic servers, as well as the game’s deep monetization system for a game that already costs $20. In addition to the base price, Naraka apparently contains a battle pass, expensive cosmetics, currencies, and loot boxes as well as some of the deluxe edition boxes apparently require you to wait until after the two-hour refund limit on Steam before you can open them. No region-locking for servers has evidently left the game with lag problems as players in the west are queued up with a lot of Chinese gamers.

Otherwise players seem to be enjoying the gameplay and the parkour aspect of the game. There are approximately 66 thousand concurrent players online on Steam as of this publishing.
