China Game Limits: 3 Hours Weekly For Minors

No gaming during the school week.

China just put a massive limit on how much video games children can play, this according to an article put out by Zheping Huang over at Bloomberg (paywalled) citing state media. Under new regulations, people under 18 in China will be restricted to playing video games only between 8 and 9 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. They will not be allowed on video games period during the regular school week. Previously children were limited to a maximum of 90 minutes of game time on any given day.

Game companies are legally required to restrict use by children outside of those hours, as well as implementing real name verification to ensure children aren’t bypassing the restrictions.
