LOTRO Making A Lot Of Stuff Free

Holy sacred cow.

Hold on to your underpants people, because this is not a food coma. One criticism we’ve seen about Lord of the Rings Online over the years is the massive and intimidating nature of its microtransaction scheme. There’s a lot of content divided into quest packs and expansions that has players confused over what, and how much, they need to spend in order to get access to the whole game.

Now over the last couple of years Standing Stone has made quest packs free for limited times. Apparently those tests went well enough that they are just making them permanent. In a blog post published this week, SSG revealed that all quests, areas, instances, and expansions up to and including Helm’s Deep will be made free. Forever.

Finally, there’s another change that’s perhaps the biggest we’ve made since The Lord of the Rings: Online went free to play all those years ago… With this update, all quests, areas, instances, and expansions released between the original launch of LOTRO back in 2007 and up to – and including! – the release of Helm’s Deep will be available for free to everyone. Quest, explore, and craft your way to level 95 to your heart’s content!
As part of our celebration, we’ll have some more announcements lined up, stay tuned in April!
