Servers to go offline as of 2023.
Spellbreak is dead. The free to play battle royale game that launched not even two years ago will close its doors in early 2023, according to a blog post by developer Proletariat Inc. The developer thanked everyone for their money and support over the last four years, and presumably would like you to not drift into thinking about refunds for recent purchases.
After more than four years of elemental magic and spell combinations, we’ve made the decision to end development of Spellbreak. The servers will be shut down as of early 2023. Thank you to the millions of players who have joined us in the Hollow Lands since 2018; it’s been an amazing journey.
The reason for the sunset? Proletariat Inc. has been acquired by Blizzard and will be absorbed into the World of Warcraft team. As reported by Venture Beat, Blizzard acquired and is in the process of absorbing Proletariat’s 100-man team to work on future updates and expansions for World of Warcraft. In an interview with Venture Beat, CEO Seth Sivak referred to Spellbreak as a “critical success,” the kind of success that is unsustainable and put its developer out of business within two years of launch.
Best of luck to the team working on World of Warcraft. You will certainly need it.
