Google abandons yet another service.
Count MMO Fallout wrong on this one. For the last few years I’ve been pushing people away from Google Stadia on the grounds that Google has a horrible track record with keeping services online, and that when Google eventually got bored and abandoned the service to their massive graveyard that players would lose their money, their games, and get little more than an apology. Well, we were wrong.
I wasn’t wrong about Google abandoning Stadia, that is going to happen. But the good news is that customers will be getting refunds for their hardware and games purchased. Provided you bought them through the Google/Stadia store.
We’re grateful to the dedicated Stadia players that have been with us from the start. We will be refunding all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store. Players will continue to have access to their games library and play through January 18, 2023 so they can complete final play sessions. We expect to have the majority of refunds completed by mid-January, 2023.
Google in the post reaffirmed their commitment to gaming, and if you want to see what Google commitment looks like I highly recommend checking out the Google Graveyard.
