Darkfall Goes Offline

Darkfall01

Darkfall has gone offline, and Aventurine doesn’t know when, or if, it will be returning. Unholy Wars, the official version, went offline with a post on the official forums explaining to players that economic conditions in Greece have made the game unsustainable. While they hope that the disruption is only temporary, for now it should be considered indefinite.

We have been involved with Darkfall for over 13 years now and it is our hope that we will be able to continue well into the future with your support. Unfortunately, and against our best efforts, the conditions in Greece have caught up with us and do not allow us to continue operating the game as we have been so far. We hope that the disruption of Darkfall Unholy Wars service is temporary and that we will be back soon in a more sustainable format. We apologize for the inconvenience to all that are affected.

Rumors of Aventurine being in a bad situation have been rampant ever since the developer decided to license the original Darkfall out to two separate developers at the same time.

Darkfall 1.0 Server Isn’t Coming Out, Says Aventurine

Darkfall01

Any hopes of a Darkfall 1.0 server can be disregarded, as Aventurine announced via the official forums that the project has been killed. As part of their discussion with the community, Aventurine has been gauging interest in a reboot of the original Darkfall for some months now. Unfortunately, the developer came to the conclusion that such a project would not be successful and has decided to kill it completely.

The sad truth is that this is not a game that anyone would play for years. Our dream is to create games that people will remember for many years to come. We want to build a company that will last for many years, too. A company whose employees will feel it is the best place they have ever worked.

In its stead, Aventurine will redouble its efforts on Unholy Wars.

Aventurine Lays Out Seven Layers Of Improvement

Darkfall01

Well, they did seven days ago, but cut me some slack. Aventurine has laid out a seven-step plan for improving Darkfall: Unholy Wars. The entire post can be found on the forum (link below) and covers seven topics based on communication with the community, on how to improve the game of Darkfall.

The post goes into a number of ideas, including an enchanting system, alignment systems for criminals, expanded PvE experience, and more. Aventurine’s ideas range in their completion stage from early concept to ready for launch within the next few patch cycles. If you have a few minutes to spare, take a look at the ideas presented in the link below.

Darkfall's Spooky Scary Halloween Event

Darkfall01

Halloween is upon us, and that means spooky events filled with ghosts, goblins, witches, zombies, and even some old string. Beginning October 30th and running for five days, Aventurine wants you to celebrate Halloween in the traditional way: Beating the crap out of monsters. Over the holiday event, certain creatures will spawn with candies for the taking, as well as limited holiday feats that can be completed for their own rewards. Beginning today, you can find Darkfall subscriptions on sale for 50% off.

The sale only runs until the 29th, so don’t be too spooked.

Darkfall Introduces PLEX-like D.U.E.L

Darkfall01

Aventurine is the latest company to jump on board the PLEX train. In a recent update post, the company revealed D.U.E.L, an item that can be purchased from the in-game shop that extends a player’s subscription by 30 days. The patch notes don’t offer much in terms of details, so we reached out to Aventurine to answer a couple of questions. The D.U.E.L is a physical item that is placed in the player’s inventory. It can be used to add 30 days to an account (extending any existing subscription time), or it can be traded to other players for in-game currency. The D.U.E.L does not drop on death cannot be looted by other players.

Thank you to Tasos Flambouras from Aventurine for providing additional information.

State of Darkfall: Upcoming Updates

Darkfall01

Aventurine has released a list of upcoming updates to Darkfall: Unholy Wars, to be released in the month of July and beyond. The first, expected for launch in the first week of July, focuses on fixing and balancing issues that have arisen since the custom roles patch last month. The second patch is the first step in creating a more customizable user interface, allowing players to tailor the UI to their preferences. Also in the works are economy rebalances, seige engines in August, and the first quest lines in September.

Further down the line, Aventurine plans to overhaul the inventory system into one that is grid-based and more easily managed, as well as an alignment system that will severely reduce the size of the safe zones, as well as the ability to enchant equipment. There is plenty more in development, including fluff items for the in-game store, and Aventurine has promised to keep us up to date on future development.

Darkfall Exploit Results In Rollback

Darkfall01

Aventurine has posted a notice that the Darkfall game servers have been rolled back to last Thursday after an exploit was discovered that allowed players to duplicate items.

With the help of the community we have discovered that there was some exploiting of our Market feature at the end of last week. We immediately deactivated the Market to fix this issue and we identified those who had been actively exploiting it. We are in the process of permanently banning these players for their actions, as their behavior is inconsistent with the values we’ve set for the Darkfall Unholy Wars community.

To take every measure necessary to protect fairness in the game we decided to roll back inventories to last Thursday and keep the Market feature disabled for another day to further test it and verify that nothing similar happens in the future.

We apologize to those affected and we will add three (3) days of game time to all active accounts on Sunday, June 1st.

Darkfall Lays Out Vision and Direction

Darkfall01

Aventurine has announced today that the developer has realigned itself to get back on track with their original vision for a sandbox PvP MMO where risk dictates reward and massive battles carry more meaning. As part of its realignment sessions, Darkfall will undergo a series of updates over the coming weeks. Top priority is the release of custom roles, allowing players to mix and match their skills, armor, boosters, etc, without being penalized. Armor will affect abilities in various manners, but it will no longer block abilities.

Next up, Aventurine is working on rebalancing the economy, going over every monster and resource node to see where improvements can be made. New higher tier tools will be launched alongside special resource nodes, with the whole shebang expected to launch over several updates. Third on the list are proper siege engines. Towers, catapults, and more to assist players in taking and holding territory. And finally, last on the list revealed is a robust quest system, a method to introduce players to the game’s lore and help new players learn the ropes.

The first update, introducing custom roles, is set for “very soon,” with the rest to follow.

Darkfall Changing Territory Control

Darkfall01

Aventurine has revealed details regarding some upcoming changes to the territory control system in Darkfall Unholy Wars, set to change the world as you know it. Set for implementation by the time you read this article, control points will now exert an area of influence, each of whom offer their own set of buffs in gathering, gaining prowess, and looting creatures within its sphere.

Clans that are able to conquer linking territory will be happy to see that these buffs stack when in their area of effect, encouraging clans to go out and take over neighboring keeps. Activity within the region will also generate resources for the clan in the form of an automatic tax.

Check out the patch notes at the official website.
