Blizzard Opens WoW Classic Beta To All Subscribers

Good news, everyone!

World of Warcraft Classic is gearing up for another beta test to run from June 19 to the 21, and you don’t even have to worry about signing up and praying to be selected for testing. All you need is a computer and an active subscription to World of Warcraft. Oh, and you’ll need to be living in the North America and Oceanic regions. Community manager Kaivax has asked players to play as much as possible during the first three hours, presumably to simulate the game’s opening hours when the servers finally go live.

For this stress test, all races and classes will be available for creation, and the maximum character level will be capped at 15. In addition to the open world, there will be instanced content available at that level. This will include Warsong Gulch for PvP as well as Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns, and Deadmines. Of course, Deadmines will be a challenge for players to complete at this level. Please focus as much play as possible during the first three hours of the stress test. During this time, we’ll be looking for more issues to address under initial launch conditions. The stress test realm will remain available for 48 hours.

The client should be available today (June 18) for pre-load.

Planetside 2 Beta Test Is A Beta Test, Not A Free Demo

Planetside 2 is still some ways off, but that doesn’t mean players can’t take part in the beta test. If you’ve been following Sony Online Entertainment for the past few months, you’ll know that Planetside players and those who purchased PC Gamer or went to the booth at E3 will have priority access to the Planetside 2 beta. Matt Higby appeared on the Planetside Universe forums to announce that external testing will kick off sometime this week, and that players will be let in as they are needed.

However, Higby also reminded the community that this is indeed a beta test, not a free game demo.

Beta testing is a critically important part of our development cycle on this project, we may be asking you to only play on tanks for a play session, or only play aircraft. We are doing true beta testing, not just a game demo and we implore those of you who are invited to understand and respect that. Things will break, the server will be unavailable sometimes, we will cancel scheduled tests when we find something that breaks before the test starts. All of this will help us make a better final game.

With more and more MMO developers using their betas as little more than publicity stunts, it is a breath of fresh air to see someone using them for their intended purpose: testing. Planetside 2 launches in the future.

Summer 2012: Beta Test New RuneScape Combat System

Remember that major combat overhaul I’ve been talking about? Earlier this month, Jagex’s Mark Gerhard revealed that the update is coming late in the summer. In fact, the update is going to be such a significant change to RuneScape, the largest since RuneScape made a major engine update in 2004, that Jagex has seen fit to perform a public beta test at the end of June.

As this is such a significant evolution of the game, we’ll be running our first ever BETA test, starting in the week commencing with the 25th of June. We value your input, and we know you are the best people to tell us what works and what doesn’t.

This is rather interesting, as the last time Jagex held a public beta was when RuneScape transitioned to RuneScape 2 back in 2004.

Next week we’ll be sharing many more details and how to get access to the Beta test, so check back in with us and be ready to mark your calendars for the big day!
