Darkfall Returns: Rise of Agon Is Live

Darkfall is back! Rise of Agon, a revival of the original Darkfall MMORPG, has officially launched. Darkfall originally launched under now-defunct developer Aventurine in 2009 only to shut down and be revived as Darkfall: Unholy Wars in 2012. Unholy Wars was subsequently shut down alongside Aventurine due to poor economic conditions in Greece. Aventurine, while they were in business, had originally planned a revival of Darkfall 1.0 (as some have referred to it) only to cancel those plans later on.

Rise of Agon is one of two Darkfall revivals that are coming out, as Aventurine sold the rights to two developers. Curious players can join in on the action by buying into the game’s $10 subscription fee.

Big Picture Games Boosts Progression For Darkfall: Rise of Agon

night_in_yssam

If Darkfall is known for one thing, it may be the arduous grind that players are required to slog through in order to hit high levels, but that may be a thing of the past with the latest game update. In a set of patch notes released yesterday, Big Picture Games has announced that players will now progress through Darkfall three times faster than they had previously, with an extra cherry on top in the form of a boost in meditation points. All characters, new and existing, will receive a handsome offering of 500,000 meditation points to invest in their skills.

The update comes alongside a number of other bug fixes and tweaks, including new racial abilities and changes surrounding Greatswords. You can find the entire list of changes at the link below, or watch the video. Rise of Agon is a reboot of the original Darkfall MMORPG in development by Big Picture Games.

Darkfall: Rise of Agon Offers Free Game Time

night_in_yssam

Darkfall: Unholy Wars is still dead, however while Aventurine was forced to shut down, but two companies have licensed the game and are looking to create their own reimagining of the original (and some would argue better) original Darkfall release. Rise of Agon is one of those two titles, and the folks at Big Picture Games released the latest set of patch notes today dealing with all manner of various tweaks.

For those still on the fence, you will be able to access the game for free beginning October 14th and continuing to October 24th.

On Friday, October 14th after server maintenance until the server maintenance of Monday, October 24th, Darkfall: Rise of Agon will be free to play for everyone. New players who wish to try Darkfall for the first time or players interested in trying out some of the new changes will be able to do so during this free period. We would like to call on our veterans to provide assistance and take in new players who try the game and help show them what the game has to offer. We plan to host events during this time and hope to see both new and old faces out on the battlefield! Stay tuned for more information later this week.

Darkfall Goes Offline

Darkfall01

Darkfall has gone offline, and Aventurine doesn’t know when, or if, it will be returning. Unholy Wars, the official version, went offline with a post on the official forums explaining to players that economic conditions in Greece have made the game unsustainable. While they hope that the disruption is only temporary, for now it should be considered indefinite.

We have been involved with Darkfall for over 13 years now and it is our hope that we will be able to continue well into the future with your support. Unfortunately, and against our best efforts, the conditions in Greece have caught up with us and do not allow us to continue operating the game as we have been so far. We hope that the disruption of Darkfall Unholy Wars service is temporary and that we will be back soon in a more sustainable format. We apologize for the inconvenience to all that are affected.

Rumors of Aventurine being in a bad situation have been rampant ever since the developer decided to license the original Darkfall out to two separate developers at the same time.

Darkfall 1.0 Server Isn’t Coming Out, Says Aventurine

Darkfall01

Any hopes of a Darkfall 1.0 server can be disregarded, as Aventurine announced via the official forums that the project has been killed. As part of their discussion with the community, Aventurine has been gauging interest in a reboot of the original Darkfall for some months now. Unfortunately, the developer came to the conclusion that such a project would not be successful and has decided to kill it completely.

The sad truth is that this is not a game that anyone would play for years. Our dream is to create games that people will remember for many years to come. We want to build a company that will last for many years, too. A company whose employees will feel it is the best place they have ever worked.

In its stead, Aventurine will redouble its efforts on Unholy Wars.

Aventurine Lays Out Seven Layers Of Improvement

Darkfall01

Well, they did seven days ago, but cut me some slack. Aventurine has laid out a seven-step plan for improving Darkfall: Unholy Wars. The entire post can be found on the forum (link below) and covers seven topics based on communication with the community, on how to improve the game of Darkfall.

The post goes into a number of ideas, including an enchanting system, alignment systems for criminals, expanded PvE experience, and more. Aventurine’s ideas range in their completion stage from early concept to ready for launch within the next few patch cycles. If you have a few minutes to spare, take a look at the ideas presented in the link below.

Darkfall's Spooky Scary Halloween Event

Darkfall01

Halloween is upon us, and that means spooky events filled with ghosts, goblins, witches, zombies, and even some old string. Beginning October 30th and running for five days, Aventurine wants you to celebrate Halloween in the traditional way: Beating the crap out of monsters. Over the holiday event, certain creatures will spawn with candies for the taking, as well as limited holiday feats that can be completed for their own rewards. Beginning today, you can find Darkfall subscriptions on sale for 50% off.

The sale only runs until the 29th, so don’t be too spooked.
